Nelson George's short film, "All Hail The Beat,” honors the Roland TR-808, a programmable drum machine that hit the market in 1984.  Despite its archaic origins, the TR-808 produces a majority of the beats in popular songs today, from Kanye West to Daft Punk.

We chatted with the author / journalist / director during our cocktail reception following the world premiere, touching upon the many hats he wears and his extensive history in the music industry. “There's never been anything done about the Roland TR-808. It's crazy because of how valuable a role it's played in music.”

Mid-conversation we could not help but note the DJ was spinning tracks we’d just learned about in his film… “See, listen- the DJ is playing so many songs tonight which wouldn't exist without the Roland TR-808!”

We wish to congratulate Nelson on his success with “All Hail The Beat,” and invite you to join in the conversation as the film continues to capture the attention of viewers worldwide. Watch the documentary via the below link and then send your thoughts to Twitter with hashtag #THEBEAT.
