"¡Vivan las Antipodas!" See the opposite side of the world.

South by Southwest, better known in print as SXSW, is still the very model of a modern multi-arts festival. Whether you attend mostly for the music, the film, or the interactive section, there's a terrific amount of cross-pollination going on. And it's a pretty wild scene. The festival practically takes over the entire city of Austin, Texas. And what better place for it? Local residents, who fear only that commercialism will spoil their homegrown celebration, wear T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan: "Keep Austin Weird."

At SXSW Film, March 9-17, you can see five features from Focus Forward participants: The Announcement (Nelson George), Under African Skies (Joe Berlinger), ¡Vivan las Antipodas! (Victor Kossakovsky), Last Call at the Oasis (Jessica Yu), and the closing night film, Big Easy Express (Karol Martesko-Fenster).
